Here’s the new canoe. I’ve gotten it out on the river only once (kind of stressful), but hopefully this weekend (Memorial Day) the sibs and I can take it to McDowell Dam or something. Lakes are a bit less threatening. I want them to be excited about canoeing, but willing to pay enough attention to how to do things so we don’t end up in the water. Or hitting trees. Or both.
It was cool when the canoe was delivered. Bismarck’s got Scheel’s, but not Mad River Canoes, which was what my tax return told me to get. The packaging material was very interesting. The entire thing was wrapped in a thin foam wrap, then it was sealed in a seamless tube of heavy-duty plastic. It’s not that the technology amazed me, but just imagining the large-scale packing equipment used in a plant is neat. Rollers, I assume.
